Living-Being is a collection of portraits of the people living in Auroville, their daily life, their perceptions and what they stand for.
Life isn’t merely the activity of an admixture of carbon: our consciousness conceives, governs, and becomes a physical world. We embody the environment that surrounds us as much as it becomes an integral part of who we are.
New portraits are added all the time!
“Be conscious first of thyself within, then think and act. All living thought is a world in preparation; all real act is a thought manifested.
The material world exists because an Idea began to play in divine self-consciousness.”
Sri Aurobindo, Thoughts and Glimpses
My name is Divya. I love to learn new things.
Two of the things I like the most are spending time with my horse and the sound of rain during the monsoon season.
I have been working with horses for 25 years and it still brings me so much healing and replenishment. This allows me to disconnect from the rest of the world and focus all my attention and energy on the present moment.
‘Auroville will be the place of an unending education, of constant progress, and a youth that never ages.’
So, what are we going to learn today?!
My name is Alessandra. I love people, nature and technology.
I am a filmmaker and photographer:
I feel my equipment is a tool to connect to the beauty that surrounds me, often hidden where less expected.
Science has finally revealed its bond with human consciousness; technology has embraced its full potential to reconnect humans to nature: every day I choose to be part of this evolution.
My name is Serena. I am Aurora’s Eye.
My dream is to re-connect, to nature, to people to myself.
I’m interested in alternative natural materials like my bicycle and sunglasses are made of bamboo.
I love observing and bringing people together, hence I’m a filmmaker, networker and community builder.
Auroville is my favourite playground to learn, grow, experiment and share.
My name is Aurovenkatesh. I am a cinematographer.
I have learnt how to be patient and have confidence in order to achieve beautiful shots.
I always approach my subjects and ask them to hold on so we can capture the perfect moment.
Kindness and making myself available are a key in my life.
While shooting, I lose myself, and all my worries & daily stress just melt away.
I am Matthew. I am a writer and a musician.
I like music and poetry,
e-bikes and Facebook likes,
laughing and joking and pulling a face.
Putting on airs and occasional graces,
While growing old shamelessly
I love living in Auroville,
Loving to live with humanity,
Thankfully getting along.
Not always famously, yet quite tenaciously,
50 years running, now that’s worth a song.
My name is Amy. I am a seeker of Truth.
The spiritual journey I embarked on in this lifetime lead me to India and Sri Aurobindo.
While reading is one of my passions I never resonated with poetry.
Therefore ‘Savitri’, Sri Aurobindo’s epic poem, was difficult for me to approach.
Yet, for the last 18 months, we have been meeting weekly to read this powerful mantra out loud.
It quenches my thirsty soul.
I am Marco. I am a photographer since I was 22.
I go to the swimming pool because the doctor suggested I go swimming to heal the joints,
overworked by years of carrying a heavy bag, full of cameras and lenses.
When I swim I feel wonderful, even more than when I shoot.
I like it so much: my body is happy and my mind shuts up.
